FHS Online Exhibits

The Forest History Society has prepared two online exhibits as a means of accessing some of the highlights of its photographic holdings. Please browse freely and check back often for new additions.

Views
Produced in the mid-1930s by the U.S. Forest Service for placement on commercial railways, this photo album contains 36 images dating 1914-1933 with captions addressing such topics as recreation, wildlife, reforestation, timber management and use, fire control, forage, and the activities of the C.C.C.
Redwood
Prepared by the Redwood Car Shippers Bureau, this album contains 10 photographs depicting damage caused by the San Francisco earthquake and fires of April 1906, promoting the effectiveness of redwood as a fire-retardant construction material.

Permission from the Forest History Society is required for any use of images.
