[In 1952 the Society began collecting and preserving documentary sources pertaining to the forest history of North America. Soon thereafter the Society began to officially recognize other archival and library facilities throughout North America as "Approved Repositories of North American Forest History" in an effort to ensure the widespread preservation of the documentary heritage of North America's forest industries.]
