Image Title: [Forest History Society "Approved Repositories of North American Forest History."]
Image Caption: Certification as an approved repository for historic papers tracing the growth of California's forest products industries, from the Forest History Foundation, Inc., in Minnesota, is given by R. R. Chaffee, (left) president of the Redwood Region Conservation Council, to Dr. George P. Hammond, Director, Bancroft Library of the University of California. RRCC made the presentation on September 18, 1959, in cooperation with state-wide forest industry interests that have encouraged establishment of the Forest History Foundation, Inc. program in the West.

[In 1952 the Forest History Society (formerly the Forest History Foundation) began collecting and preserving documentary sources pertaining to the forest history of North America. Soon thereafter the Society began to officially recognize other archival and library facilities throughout North America as "Approved Repositories of North American Forest History" in an effort to ensure the widespread preservation of the documentary heritage of North America's forest industries.]
