Image Title: Cougar Track Branding Hammer
Image Caption: Jack Jamieson, inventive bullbock (boss of a timber cutters crew) demonstrates how his "Cougar Track" branding hammer works. The handle carries a load of paint that sprays out in cougar track design around the brand that [is] stamped into [the] butt end of [a] log each time it's swung. Log brands are placed around [the] outer rim of [a] log so that scalers can read brands even when [a] log is floating in [a] mill pond or [a] booming pond. Paint marking serves [a] useful purpose in that it makes unbranded logs immediately evident before [a] loaded truck leaves the woods. Hammer contains 15 precision-made moveable parts, sells for $75.
