Image Caption: [Portrait of a Camp Fire Girl from Pasadena, California.]

[Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick and William Langdon founded the Camp Fire Girls in 1910 in Sebago, Maine, as an organization dedicated to building character and developing leadership skills in young girls. On 15 March 1912 Camp Fire Girls was incorporated as the first national, nonsectarian, interracial organization for girls in the United States. To reflect the development of a new co-educational programming focus, the organization changed its name to Camp Fire Incorporated in 1975 and then to Camp Fire Boys and Girls in 1993.]
