FHS1207th

Image ID: FHS1207
Image Date:  08/17/1942
Image Title:  [Even-aged clearcut forest in Hartwick, New York.]
Image Caption:  Clear cutting of an even-aged stand of white pine about 45 years old by portable mill operator cutting only squares edge lumber. Note the exposure of site, the high degree of fire hazard, and the very poor utilization. Although the operator apparently made a good profit on this operation, the owner received only a fraction of the intrinsic value of the timber lot. New York.
