FHS1222th

Image ID: FHS1222
Image Date: 1961
Image Title: [View of redwood forest that regenerated naturally after a clearcut; 1960.]
Image Caption: View of the Scotia Inn (Humboldt County, California) in 1961. The forest has regenerated itself in 50 years, after deliberate attempts to convert the land to pasture. Young-growth redwood forests cover more than one million acres along the California coastline. Early-day efforts at land conversion throughout the Redwood Region were abandoned when it became apparent that it was virtually impossible to destroy the redwood forests. [See image #FHS1221 for same view photographed in 1910.]
