Image Title: Block Cutting.
Image Caption: These bare areas have been harvested recently. The harvested blocks will soon be green with a new growth of little Douglas first that spring up from seed scattered from nearby seed blocks. This block cutting is necessary because little Douglas fir trees will not grow in the shade of larger trees. Block cutting is practiced generally in the Douglas Fir regions of Western Oregon and Washington.
