Image Title:   REDWOOD HOUSES ON MISSION STREET, NEAR TWENTIETH, SAN FRANCISCO, CAL.
Image Caption:   Caption 1: No. 7: All buildings on Mission street, north and east of these houses, to San Francisco Bay, a distance of more than two miles and a half, were destroyed by the great fire that was finally stopped at these Redwood fronts. The standing telephone poles are also Redwood. Mission street is 82 feet 6 in. wide.

[This image is from an album prepared in June of 1906 by the Redwood Car Shippers Bureau, containing 10 photographs depicting damage caused by the San Francisco earthquake and fires of April 1906, promoting the effectiveness of redwood as a fire-retardant construction material. The album was donated to the Forest History Society by the Davenport, Peters Company.]
