Image Caption:  Tree improperly bucked, shortening of first log would have increased value. The first two logs in this 19-inch black oak were cut 14 feet long, the third 10 feet. had they been cut 12, 14, and 12 feet (as marked with tape) value of the tree as lumber would have been $2.25 higher. White spots show location of defects. Central Pennsylvania.
