| Forest History Society Sample Images: Logging -- Felling -- Two-Man Power Saws / FHS5384th.jpg |

Image ID: FHS5384
Image Date: [no date]
Image Title: [Felling.]
Image Caption: Where the tree has greater diameter than the power saw has length, the logger must use ingenuity. In this case the fallers first notched out an undercut on the side of the tree in the direction of the fall. Then they made notches on each side of the tree, 90 degrees from the first cut. This was to narrow the diameter of the tree so that they could get the saw into place to make the main cut. Then they make the final cut.
