Image Caption:  Caption 1: Fallers use a power saw to fell a big Ponderosa pine somewhere in the Western Pine country of Northern California. The cut is being made low on the stump in accordance with modern logging practice, reducing wood waste to a minimum.

Caption 2: Western Pine loggers, wearing "tin hats" to protect them from falling snags and limbs, use a power saw to fall a big ponderosa pine tree. Photograph was made in the Pacific Northwest. In this instance power for the saw is supplied by tractor in background.
