Image Title:  Log jam.
Image Caption:  Caption 1: A log drive on the north fork of the Clearwater River in northern Idaho becomes jammed, and dynamite is used to free the logs. Men are employees of Potlatch Forests, Inc., Lewiston, Idaho. Dynamite is used only as a last resort, as the explosion splinters the logs.

Caption 2: A group of 'river-pigs' dynamiting a center jam during log drive on the Clearwater River in Idaho. Blasting the key log or anchor of the jam is a last resort used only after every other means- including brains, brawn, and peavey- have failed. Shivered logs as a result of the blast have little value as saw timber. Contrary to the belief of some anglers, who claim dynamiting kills and injures fish, the blast area is too small to harm many.
