| Forest History Society Sample Images: Logging -- Log Drives -- Wanigans / FHS5043th.jpg |

Image ID: FHS5043
Image Date: [no date]
Image Title: Wanigan.
Image Caption: This is a close-up view of the wanigan and it should be noted the double sweeps in the foreground. Another set of sweeps are on the head end. This is quite different than the cedar rafts used in the past which had a 50 foot sweep at each end. Bill Akin, veteran pilot of the wanigans, stated that these were much easier to handle and rode the white water much easier and much better than the former wanigans. This type of wanigan is the brain child of the late L. K. 'Boots' Edelblute, who, prior to his death, was assistant logging superintendent for the Clearwater woods.
