Image ID:  FHS5458
Image Date:  [no date]
Image Title:  [Log scaler.]
Image Caption:  Mrs. Ruth Fulford is shown holding down the job of scaler on the log deck in the lumber mill of the White River Lumber Company, Enumclaw, Washington. This is the point where the logs first enter the mill from the log pond. The employee holding down this position operates the heavy bull chain which brings the big logs up from the pond into the mill, scales each log for lumber content, and operates a device which kicks the log over on to an inclined deck where it awaits its turn to be sawn.
