Image ID: FHS2020
Image Date:
[March 1928]
Image Title:
"A Pictorial Album of the Naval-Stores Industry"
Image Caption:
Caption 1: Result of an ax incision which was cut too deep. The tree is weakened so that high winds will cause the face to split. Often a deep ax cut will cause the tree to be broken off at that point.

Caption 2: Damaged faces due to driving apron too far into tree -- wasteful practice. Supervisor A. C. Shaw in photo. [Choctawhatchee National Forest, Florida.]

[Image from "A Pictorial Album of the Naval-Stores Industry", published 13 December 1937 by the U.S. Government Printing Office for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service. The 47-page photo album has an introductory foreword, a table of contents, a 1-page “History of the Naval-Stores Industry”, and accompanying captions. The publication contains actual print images that are affixed to pages with photo corners.]
