Caption 1: Sometimes the barrels are filled on the wagon, especially if the timber is scattered, but more often the barrels are filled on the ground, covered, and rolled onto the wagon for transporting to the still. Two poles, one end of each of which drags along the ground and the other end fastened to the deck of the wagon or truck, are used to roll the full barrel onto the vehicle.
