| Image ID: Views8 Image Date: Aug. 1930 Image Title: Permanent Communities Image Caption: [Caption 1:] Permanent communities are impossible when forest properties on which they depend are operated on the all too prevalent "cut-out-and-get-out" basis. But under sustained yield forest management a continuous timber crop is assured, which makes it possible to plan for stability and permanence for forest (and allied) industries, the communities dependent upon those industries and families living in those communities. In the National Forests, timber is harvested under the sustained yield system of forest management. Area cut under sustained-yield principles of forest management. Note the merchantable trees and seed trees left: the low stumps, the young growth already established. Tops and limbs have been piled and burned, as a fire-protective measure.
