FHS Library Resources Pertaining to Canada

The Forest History Society (FHS) Library collects and compiles historical information on the Canadian environment from numerous sources. This page highlights some of the more prominent resources readily accessible in the Society's collections.

The FHS library currently receives the following Canadian journals:

• American Review of Canadian Studies
• Archivist (National Archives of Canada)
• BC Studies
• Canadian Oral History Association Journal
• Forestry Chronicle
• Journal of Canadian Studies
• Labour/Le Travail (Memorial University of Newfoundland)

• Pulp & Paper Canada

We also have small collections of Canada Lumberman, the Canadian Forestry Journal, and Commission of Conservation Canada Reports from the period 1900-1930.

The library collects myriad published materials, including: journals and magazines; books; maps and newsclippings; reference works; and annual reports and newsletters from companies, government agencies, conservation organizations, and environmental groups. FHS library staff members regularly examine all such resources to locate historical information pertinent to the library's reference mission. We list these items in our Environmental History Bibliographic Database. Of the 40,000 individual items presently described in the bibliography, more than 3,000 publications relate to Canada's forest, conservation, and environmental history.
