1913-1919 State Resolutions for Land Transfers

In 1913, 1914, and 1919, a number of western state legislatures passed resolutions that called for the ceding of federal lands to state control. The moves came largely in response to mining, logging, and grazing industry pressures, and focused upon the unreserved public domain lands (now managed by the Bureau of Land Management) not the national forests or parks. In fact, a 1913 Oregon state commission looked into the idea of state management of the national forests, but rejected it.
