Policy

Conserving forests, grasslands and aquatic ecosystems while serving people is an evolving process with citizen involvement, congressional mandates, and scientific theory. These pages, based on the strengths of the Forest Service headquarters history collection, provide a view of this history.

The Forest Service has produced a new film on its history entitled: The Greatest Good: A Forest Service Centennial Film. DVD copies and a companion book are available from the Forest History Society.
