[In 1908 Carl Alwin Schenck (1868-1955) organized a three-day forest fair on George Vanderbilt's estate in Asheville, North Carolina, to help demonstrate the accomplishments and possibilities of practical forestry. The event was well-attended by botanists, forest engineers, lumbermen, furniture manufacturers, state foresters, statesmen, editors, paper company representatives, university professors, and others.
